I saw this beautiful Corvette Stingray convertible on my way home from work a few days ago. I love my Celica convertible, but I couldn’t help feeling just a little jealous of this convertible…
The chrome bumpers on both front (you can see a tiny glint of chrome in front of the wheel) and rear indicate that this Corvette is, at the newest, a 1972 model. The chrome on the front was dropped in ’73 and the rear was restyled with an integrated plastic bumper for ’74. The last year for round exhaust cutouts was 1969, so this Corvette was built somewhere between 1970 and 1972.
It’s always fun to me to see other 4th-generation Toyota Celica convertibles regardless of their condition, since they aren’t very common anymore. This one is often parked in front of a row of shops near my house, and I finally stopped to shoot some photos of it.
The 4th-generation Celica was produced from 1986-1989, but the convertible was only available from 1987-89. Toyota made slight changes to the grill, turn signals, taillights, and interior in 1988, making ’87 convertible models like mine somewhat unique.
This example has the later style features, and according to ToyotaReference.com, 1989 was the only year the “Ice Blue Pearl” paint color was offered. From what I’ve gathered over the years I’ve owned my Celica, the only other colors offered on the convertible were white, black, and red.
I’m pretty sure there was never a factory built convertible of this car available. This one is obviously an unfinished project. The top has been cut off and the poor thing has been put out in the weather to rot from the inside out 😳.
This Beetle can be identified as a 1974 from the shock-absorbing bumper mounts (introduced in 1974) and the dual tailpipes (the 1975 model had a single tailpipe). All Beetles with curved windshields are Super Beetles, and all convertibles were Super Beetles starting 1974. The bumpers on this example don’t appear to be original.
This is the first year Pontiac offered the LeMans with a GTO option. I owned and drove a rust bucket version of one of these in High School (early 80’s). I sold it when I was in college to buy a computer 😳.
